Explore the geology of the Sierra Nevada and Carson Pass with Docent Carl Gwyn. We will start at Carson Pass Station at 10:30 a.m. and will enjoy a leisurely hike to Frog Lake as we discuss earth processes, the formation of California and the Sierra Nevada, volcanic activity in and around Carson Pass, glaciation, and the deposition of gold in the Mother Lode with its historical and societal effects on our young nation. Our hike to Frog Lake is about 1.5 miles one way will end at Frog Lake. It will last about 90 minutes with frequent stops for discussion. From Frog Lake the participants can return to Carson Pass or continue to other destinations of their choice.
